Happiness for animals is our goal!

Northeast Arkansans for Animals (NAFA) is a non-profit, tax-deductible rescue organization for animals.  We are concerned about the welfare of animals.  We did not put up this web site to just ask for money (although all donations are gladly excepted).  We designed the web site to be educating and entertaining.  We hope you learn a little and laugh a lot.  And, we hope you decide to get involved with a any humane society, they all need help.

Our chapter has no paid employees, ALL THE MONEY WE COLLECT GOES TO THE ANIMALS in food, medical bills, crates, etc.  NONE of it goes into anyone's pocket.

At this time, we do not have a “shelter”.  All our animals are kept in foster homes.  In many cases, this is better for the animal.  Those that are traumatized or need special attention can be worked with so they can more easily adapt to a home environment.

We hold pet adoptions, fun events, training events, and educational events.  Our main focus is our spay and neuter program.  There were 40,000 dogs put to sleep in Arkansas in the year 2000.  The only solution is to educate the public of this terrible tragedy and to spay and neuter until it’s under control.

We sponsor low cost spay and neuter programs to help people on low income, the elderly and the disabled.

NAFA receives calls to check on breeders, puppy mills, and pet shops.  We hold spay and neuter clinics where low income people can bring in their animals and get them neutered.  We take in animals and hold pet adoptions where we screen people to make sure we find good homes for the animals placed in our care.  Many times the animals we take in need medication and/or socialization.  We also hold training classes.  The classes teach people basic obedience but also teaches a lot of "extras" about owning a dog.  Some of NAFA's main goals are:

To decrease the amount of unwanted animals being born.  We spay and neuter as many animals as possible to help stop the abundance of unwanted animals born every day.

Educate children on bite prevention and how to care for animals.

Educate the public to make them more aware of training methods, bite prevention, animals cruelty, puppy mills, etc.

Make sure people who breed and sell animals do so in as humanely a way as possible

Stop cruel puppy mills

Find and stop breeding dogs for fighting

Find homes for as many animals as possible

Stop pet theft

If you want to learn more about rescue, go to our page "About Rescue".

And it is our hope, that through this site, more people will become willing to invest their money or their time or both, to help us eliminate animal cruelty and the over population problem.  And yes, it can be eliminated!

But the site is really about all rescue organizations out there that are working to help animals, and are willing to suffer themselves to do so.  With enough people, enough money, and through legislation, we can help stop so much of what is going on.  I hope you go through our entire site.  I hope you rejoice with us and cry with us.  And I hope you decide to became a part of us.  If one person decides to help in the fight, then the time and money spent doing this website will be worth it.

People have asked, "Why should I spay my animal?  I just want to have a couple of litters and I will find homes for them?"

These are good questions.  However, for every animal you allow to give birth and find a home for, an animal in a shelter will be euthanized.  For more statistics about this go to our Why Spay & Neuter page.

Check out our Calendar of Events to find out what things are going on.  Come and be part of the fun.

If you are another rescuer, go to our "To Rescuers" page.  We have things you can relate to.  (Anyone else is also welcome and will probably learn something about rescue.)  And, if you have a rescue group not listed in our "Other Rescue Groups", let us know and we will be glad to exchange links with you.

If you are interested in helping us, or any other group, but do not know how, there are several ways of doing this.  Go to our "Ways To Help" page and take a look.  Maybe there are some things you can do that you haven't thought of.  And, thanks in advance for you help, no matter what group you're helping.

Our Tails have happy endings!

"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.
You are his life, his love, his leader.
He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart.
You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion."

Our site has been rated as safe to surf.

Most of the things on the site deal with dogs and cats, only because that's all we had.  If you have information or fun things pertaining to other animals, send it to us and we will consider putting it on the site also.

Thank you to Peggy Rose for allowing us to use some of her beautiful graphics.  You can visit her site here.

We have graphics from several different places.  If we have a graphic that does not have the correct name of ownership, please let us know.  We will either give the name or remove it altogether.
